Study Club holds Christmas gathering

The Groesbeck Study Club had its Christmas Party at the Springfield Hall just outside of Groesbeck on Thursday, December 15, 2021 at 6pm. All 32 of the members and guests were greeted by the Social Committee who were our hostesses for the evening; Lea Hardison, Peggy Beck, Wanda Bush, Carol Jenkins and Cathy Koenig and assisted by Beth Westhoff. The room was elegantly decorated and on each tabletop was a black and white gingham runner and atop each runner were different tin containers or plates with Christmas scenes on each. Each scene was different for each table and beautifully done. Shirley Richardson gave the warm and thoughtful speech quoting from the Bible; John 8:12 and gave our invocation. The caterer was Kamden’s Café from Groesbeck and it was King Ranch Chicken, Mexican Style Corn, Green Beans, and a Roll with Sweet Tea and Lemonade to drink and for dessert, Chocolate Cream and Coconut Cream Pies. We were served Buffet style by the social committee and everyone so enjoyed the delicious fare. We were entertained by Kalyn Cox who sang Jingle Bell Rock, Mary Did You Know, Rock Around the Christmas Tree and ended with Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas. She is so talented and we enjoyed every lilting note. Kay Alston gave us a reading of her soon to be published children’s book, Little Brother’s Story about a cat’s life in Bethlehem at the birth of Jesus. This should be a smash hit when it comes out. To both of you, well done and also well done to the hostesses and to Springfield Hall for your beautiful facility. A time of fellowship followed. Merry Christmas.

Christmas and What it Means

Christmas has different meanings for each of us. The United States of America was founded on Christian principles and beliefs, and we celebrate Christmas because it is the birthday of Jesus Christ. Over the years Christmas has transformed from a celebration of the birth of our Savior to a commercial-oriented secular winter holiday where gifts are given without purpose and Christmas carols have evolved into god knows what and the reason for the season has devolved into a take it or leave it winter Holiday.

Garden Club has Christmas Party

The Cynthia Ann Garden Club had its Christmas Party on Thursday, December 15, 2021 at the Groesbeck Woman’s Club at 12 noon. Even though it was raining and we had to ford the raging torrent at the cub before safely getting into the building, we had 22 members show up to celebrate. Bobbie Muhlinghause gave a beautiful and heartfelt invocation.
