Organizers of Quanah Parker Day are lining up activities for Sept. 11, which is when the special day to honor Quanah Parker falls this year.
When Carrie and her twin Cherie Samons were born a month premature in June 1971, their future looked uncertain at best. Cherie, who was born first, was given a 50 percent chance of survival while Carrie, who was born four minutes later and was briefly deprived of oxygen, was given only a 10 percent chance of survival. Carrie stopped breathing and for all practical purposes had died, but 10 minutes later she was revived.
