COVID-19 Scams Targeting Senior Citizens

The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) tells us that older adults are at higher risk for severe illness from COVID-19. Unfortunately, they may also be at high risk for being targeted by scammers. BBB Scam Tracker data show us that while adults over 65 are more likely to walk away from a potential scam, they lose more money than any other demographic, with a median loss of $350 in 2019. Many senior citizens are turning to BBB to report coronavirus-related scams targeting them.

Coming together to support families and prevent child abuse and neglect

Across our community, there are parents and caregivers who may be struggling with balancing the stress of daily life alongside caring for a child. Whether it is working multiple jobs trying to put food on the table, grappling with a substance use disorder, wondering where the next month’s rent will be coming from or figuring out how to deal with a major financial setback, balancing these pressures with parenting and running a household can at times be very difficult.

Property owners to receive 2020 appraisal notices

Property owners will soon receive appraisal notices from the Limestone Appraisal District. The district will send the notices April 30, in which city, county, school districts and other local taxing units apply to set the 2020 values. Under Texas law, county appraisal districts are required to notify property owners about changes in their property’s value.
