A group of volunteer mask makers has stepped up to serve citizens, employees and many more across Limestone County. The Limestone Stitching Stars is made up of masked residents across the county, contributing the masks to hometown heroes that continue to serve the public in law enforcement and emergency response.
Children joined in the fun as they greeted residents and healthcare workers across Limestone and Freestone Counties. Organizers from various healthcare agencies and local hospitals joined, in support of the medical first responder community and citizens.
Unprecedented times call for unprecedented procedures, and like Groesbeck ISD students, the GISD Board of Trustees were expected to embrace technology in a new way on Monday, April 20, holding their regularly scheduled meeting through a videoconference service called Zoom. Though Governor Greg Abbott announced on Friday, April 17 that Texas schools must remain closed for what’s left of the spring semester due to COVID-19, educators must continue providing instruction to students until the school calendar’s final day, and administrators must continue making decisions about the district’s future for the eventual return to normalcy.
The Groesbeck Heritage Festival, originally scheduled for the weekend of May 29 through 31 this year, has been cancelled.
The Limestone County Sheriff’s Office and Groesbeck Police Department responded to a reported shooting in the 300 block of South Ellis Street shortly after midnight Sunday, April 19. The initial 911 call indicated that the incident was an accidental shooting. The victim, currently identified as a man, was transported to Baylor Scott and White Hillcrest Medical Center in Waco where he was pronounced dead.
