Save the date for Navarro College Foundation’s singing contest fundraiser

Navarro College Foundation’s singing contest fundraiser, Legacy 2021: A New Voice, was last held in February 2020, right before the pandemic hit – which can seem a very long time ago. The event was extremely popular, so those who enjoyed that night will be happy to know the contest is returning June 11, just over seven weeks from now.

Bricks and more; Groesbeck Reds

With the Groesbeck Heritage Festival rapidly approaching on May 28, 29, 30, we will celebrate our 150th Anniversary (or as some call it, Sesquicentennial). It is fitting to look back on many of the events and businesses that contributed. In a recent issue, the coming of the railroad was recognized as the event that brought Groesbeck into existence and gave us our name after a director of the railroad townsite company. Early businesses were established to provide sustenance and supplies for local consumption. Later, as the town grew, others were established that reached far beyond the confines of a small town and its limited needs. Lumber and nails were being replaced by bricks and mortar for more permanent construction and many areas provided the clays required for brick making.
