Groesbeck Goats fall to Marlin Bulldogs, 13-20
The Groebseck Goats game winning streak came to an end putting the Goats at 2-1 with a bitter 13-20 loss against the Marlin Bulldogs Friday, Sept. 8. The game was fought on the ground with both teams not giving up a single inch and running the ball non-stop.
Friday's game was a nail-biter with not a single score until the third quarter. The first half was uneventful, ending 0-0 at the end.
The third quarter opened with Goat's offense punting to Marlin with a touchdown return, putting the score at 0-6.
Groesbeck Jordan Smith returned the kickoff from QB Trent Platt to RB Marquis Gibson. Marlin’s defense was strong but Smith ran the ball to the 46-yard line followed by Trent Platt bring it to the 19-yard line but Marlin’s strong resistance resulted in a turnover.
The Goats, not to be stopped, answered with a touchdown managing to keep the Bulldogs stressed enough to miss two out of three extra points resulting in the final score, 13-20
The Goats will be at home next Friday, Sept. 15 to fight for a victory in the homecoming game against Crockett.
