Free student breakfast and lunch to be provided at GISD
Groesbeck ISD Child Nutrition Department announced last week changes to their program beginning, Mon. Sept. 14.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Food and Nutrition Service is extending several nationwide waivers for the Summer Food Service Program and Seamless Summer Option through Dec. 2020, or until available funding runs out which may be before classes end in December.
Beginning Mon, Sept. 14, all students in grades Pre-K through 12 will receive free breakfast and lunch each day school is in session. This benefit will be available to students through December 2020 or earlier if all USDA funds are expended.
Students may purchase additional items and/or meals as long as they have money in their account or with them. No charges are allowed for additional items/ and or meals. Students/families are still responsible for paying for charges carrying over from last year and up to September 11, 2020. These expenses are not covered under this program.
“We are excited to be able to offer this benefit to our students. We believe this will relieve some of the stress our families are facing during this ongoing pandemic,” said Dr. James Cowley, Superintendent of Schools.
