Party • August 21, 2018
WHEREAS, on Tuesday, August 14, 2018 the Limestone County Commissioner’s Court voted to unanimously adopt a resolution opposing the placement of a landfill benefitting McLennan County largely on property located in Limestone County near the intersection of State Highway 31 and TK Parkway.
NOW, THEREFOR, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Limestone County Democratic Party chooses to add our voice in opposition of the proposed placement of this landfill for the following reasons:
• Environmental impact from hazardous waste exposure, emissions, groundwater disruption, and illegal dumping;
• Decreased quality of life for adjacent property owners, including potential health issues from exacerbating illnesses;
• Increased cost to county taxpayers to monitor and to maintain county roads in the area; and,
• Lowered tax base due to decreased market value of land.
The Limestone County Democratic Party supports economic growth in McLennan County, but we do not support it at the expense of the residents of Limestone County. The Limestone County Democratic Party supports Limestone County Judge Richard Duncan and the Commissioners’ Court in their work with Federal and State legislators, with the Environmental Protection Agency, and with the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality to assure the property rights of our citizens are protected.
