Funeral services will be conducted at 11 AM on Monday, September 7, 2020 in the Chapel with her grandsons, Keith Sellers and Lee Wright officiating. Burial will follow in Kosse at Eutaw Cemetery.
Willie Mae was born to William and June Shetter O’Neal in Corpus Christi, Texas on August 8, 1940. She spent most all her childhood with her parents, brother, and two sisters in Kosse, Texas. She was proud to be an alumnus of the fighting Kosse Greyhounds, where she attended school and made many lifelong friends.
Willie Mae married the love of her life, Leldon D Wright (LD) on June 22, 1957. Soon, Leldon and Willie Mae added two children, Kathy Lynn and Ricky D Wright. The Wrights led a family driven life, full of love, God, and happiness. The family was avid members of the Church of Christ. Just when Willie Mae and Leldon thought they could not be more fulfilled, along came their first grandson, Keith. They immediately took on the role of Nana and Papa where they thrived. Keith was shortly joined by cousins and brothers, Lee, Heather, Bryan, and the baby, Kevin.
Willie Mae and Leldon provided a safe haven for their grandchildren and every Friday all of them would get together at their house to stay the night. This allowed for the cousins to develop a lifelong bond and teach them the true meaning of love, family, all while keeping God in the forefront. Every one of the grandchildren, at one point in their lives, lived with Nana and Papa being welcomed with open arms for as long as needed. This type of unconditional love is a rare find and the grandchildren all consider themselves lucky to have found that at Nana and Papa’s house. Willie Mae and Leldon’s children and all their grandchildren has not only become successful in their families and careers, they all have very good taste in music. Nana was a die-hard Elvis fan and was the queen of the 50s. She was the best person to watch movies, listen to music, or just sit around and talk to. There will always be little of Nana’s presence in all her descendants and for that we are humbler, kinder, more patient, and open hearted.
