Wesley Dwain Popejoy
Wesley Dwain Popejoy, 86, of Groesbeck, Texas, went to be with our Lord and Savior on Monday, August 19, 2019, at 5:09AM, surrounded by loved ones.
Funeral services were held the morning of Wednesday, August 21, 2019, in Groesbeck Funeral Home, with Chaplain Jon Honea officiating. Burial followed at Faulkenberry Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Wesley Popejoy, Byran Popejoy, Garrett Wynn, Burton Wynn, Brian Kurtz, and James Todd. Dylan Benton, Max Kurtz, and Dillan Terry were Honorary Pallbearers.
Dwain Popejoy was born October 5, 1932 to Jim and Thelma (Nichols) Popejoy in Prairie Point. He grew up living in Groesbeck, Thornton, and Big Hill, graduating from Groesbeck High School. He worked in the local lumber yard, then moved to Houston as a cabinetmaker as a young man.
In 1953, Dwain joined the Marines, and was stationed at San Diego Depot, Camp Mt Fuji, Japan, Korea DMZ, and Camp Pendleton. Leaving the Core as a Sergeant. Returning home to make history, as one of the 36 Limestone County couples who were married in June of 1956. His three children were raised in South Arlington where they attended school in Mansfield.
Dwain worked over 30 years at LTV as a Research and Development Machinist specializing in very small custom parts. After he retired in 1988, Dwain returned to Groesbeck where he enjoyed his days making a home with his wife Sandy, drinking coffee with a few grains of sugar at the Dairy Queen, and watching his grandkids grow up.
Dwain was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Sandra Kay Hughes-Popejoy; brother Joe Popejoy, sister Nadine (Popejoy) Stafford, brother James Popejoy and wife Nelda, and sister Betty (Popejoy) Duke.
He is survived by his children, Don Popejoy, Mike Popejoy and wife Carla, and Anne (Popejoy) Wynn and husband Burton; and many grandchildren and great grandchildren.
