Wanda Maxine Henderson

Wanda Maxine Henderson, “Grandma”, peacefully entered into eternal life from her home at Wheelock, TX, surrounded by her loving family, on Monday, Jan. 20, 2025.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Jan. 25, in the Groesbeck Funeral Home Chapel, with Brother Richard Williams and Lew Stewart of the Church of Christ of Groesbeck officiating.  Burial will follow in the Old Union Cemetery.
Pallbearers are Brandon Slater, Carson Slater, Carter Kuizinas, Troy Thompson, Clyde Thompson, and Lew Stewart.
Honorary pallbearers were Pete Chasteen, Tommy Morgan, Keith Brown, Colin Lenamond, Bud Renfro, Darren Renfro, and in memory of those who have preceded her in death, Kenneth Thompson, Brandon Brown, Steve Brown, and Norman Jones.
Wanda was born in Navarro County on Feb. 7, 1947, to Clyde Pierce and Eva Mae Thompson Pierce. She grew up in Dawson and graduated from Dawson High School, and then attended Navarro Junior College.
Wanda worked as a legal assistant for Attorney Harry Fender in Mexia, and then for Star Petroleum in Corsicana where she handled all administrative matters.  She was a member of the Dawson Order of the Eastern Star.
Wanda was united in marriage with Cameron “Cammie” Deen Henderson in 1994, and they made their home in both Old Union and Wheelock communities. Wanda had been raised in a cotton-farm family and became an active cattle rancher with Cammie. She loved to work – all day – every day.
Wanda loved spending time creating lasting memories with her children and grandchildren, whether fishing, hunting, gardening, working cattle, or enjoying the serenity of the beach (and the hotter the better for her.)
She was a faithful member of the Church of Christ, earlier in Dawson, then attending at Franklin and at Old Union. Her warmth and passion for life touched everyone she met, leaving a legacy of love and joy.
The last five years of her life and especially the last three years became a terrific struggle with a rare and debilitating illness, which resulted in her inability to speak, and for which the doctors found no treatment and no cure. She was lovingly cared for in her home by her husband and her family who would have done anything possible to provide for her needs.
Wanda was preceded in death by her parents.
She was a devoted wife to Cammie Henderson and a proud mother to her children, Brad and wife Erica Slater, Stacey and wife Nicole Slater, Taylor Henderson, Courtland Kuizinas, and Clay Henderson. She cherished her role as grandmother to Brandon Slater, Carson Slater, Matt Slater, Carter Kuizinas, McKenzie Conner, Alex Munk, Ian Munk, Grant Munk, Zach Munk, and Zane Henderson.
In her honor, the family requests donations in support of Dr. Belen Pascual’s Frontotemporal Dementia (FTD) research at Houston Methodist Hospital’s Nantz National Alzheimer Center. Donations can be made here: https://givingforms.houstonmethodist.org/NantzGivingForm or you may mail a check to: Nantz National Alzheimer Center c/o Houston Methodist Hospital Foundation, P.O.  Wanda will be deeply missed by her family and friends, but her spirit and love will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
