Wanda June (Henson) Crow
Wanda June (Henson) Crow, formerly of Groesbeck, passed away at Rowlett on Wednesday, Nov. 6, 2024, at age 85.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, Nov. 9, in the Groesbeck Funeral Home Chapel, with Reverend Wayne Tumey officiating. Burial followed in Faulkenberry Cemetery.
Wanda was born Sept. 14, 1939, in Groesbeck to Johnie Vernon Henson and Ovell Marie (Little) Henson. She grew up in Groesbeck, graduating from Groesbeck High School in the Class of 1958.
After graduation, Wanda moved to Dallas and began her career with Southwestern Bell Telephone, which was later AT&T. She worked as a long-distance operator, repair clerk, and in other various roles in the central office, including the “frame and test” desk. She was admired for her work ethic, loyalty, and kindness during her 25-year tenure, until her retirement on October 6, 1982. She was known as a true friend to her colleagues, always lending a helping hand and lifting spirits with her gentle smile.
Wanda raised her son, Stan, who was born in 1960, in Dallas, and he visited Groesbeck with his grandmother during summers. As his Mother, Wanda raised him with a “stern” look when needed, but all with love.
Wanda moved back to Groesbeck to take care of her mother and enjoyed her time spent cooking, gardening, and shopping, whether locally or in Dallas or Waco. She enjoyed visiting with her friends, including Patricia, Patsy, BJ, and Ann. She was loving, caring, giving, and never met a stranger. She always enjoyed her furry-babies, especially her most recent pet, Sam. Wanda was a member of the First Baptist Church of Groesbeck. Wanda was blessed in 2001 with a loving daughter-in-law, Christy, and a granddaughter, Lauren.
Wanda was preceded in death by her parents, Johnie and Ovell Henson; infant brother, Roy Milton; brother, Larry Henson and sister-in-law, Linda Henson.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, James Stanley “Stan” Alexander, Jr. and Christy Alexander of Royce City; granddaughter, Lauren Kannady of Dallas; her furry-baby, Sam (Sam Bo) and numerous nieces, nephews, and other extended family.
