Terry Jean "MeMe" Stanton
Terry Jean "MeMe" Stanton, a beacon of love and selflessness, passed away peacefully at her home on July 11, 2024, surrounded by the warmth of her loving family. Born on Dec. 28, 1957, in Palestine, Terry’s journey through life was marked by her unwavering kindness and her joyous spirit.
Terry is survived by her devoted mother, Jeanette Storey of Palestine, and her cherished
husband of 51 years, Jeff Stanton of Thornton. She was the heart and soul of her family,
leaving behind her children, Keith Stanton and wife Kendra of Elkhart, Christy Stanton of
Willis, and William Stanton, and wife Jessica of Flint. Her siblings, Sherry Tucker of Mound
City, Tammy Smith and husband Mike of Palestine, and brother Tim Storey and wife
Karen Sue of Palestine will hold her memory dear. Terry’s light will continue to shine
through her loving grandchildren, Caitlyn Crawford and Cody Fink of Hockley; Sierra and
Dillion Brown of Milford, KS; Alyssa and Gabe Gonzales of Flint; Brooke and Randy Brown of
Slocum; Korbin Stanton and Paislee Byrd of Mauriceville; Jeremiah Stanton of Flint and
Kamden Stanton of Elkhart as well as her great-grandchildren, Carson, Kenley, Everley,
Caisen, Emory and Easton.
Terry’s life was enriched by the company of her nieces, nephews, and a host of friends and
good neighbors at Lake Limestone, especially her special friend and neighbor, Susan. Together, they shared a love for quilting, card games, movies, plays and dance classes, creating a
tapestry of cherished moments.
For 13 years, Terry dedicated herself to her work at JJ’s before embracing the fulfilling role
of a stay-at-home wife, mother and MeMe. Her home was a haven of warmth and generosity,
reflecting her selfless nature and the love she poured into her family.
A woman of many passions, Terry found joy in quilting, traveling, fishing and hunting. But
above all, she reveled in the precious time spent with her grandchildren. Her love for butterflies, hummingbirds, and flowers spoke of her appreciation for the beauty in life. Terry’s
adventurous spirit shone brightly in her younger years, as she participated in mud runs
with her father, Milton Storey, and proudly brought home trophies.
Terry’s life was a testament to the words of Mother Teresa, "Not all of us can do great
things. But we can do small things with great love." Every act of kindness, every moment of
care, and every gesture of love Terry offered were her great things, touching the lives of
those around her.
Preceded in death by her father, Milton Storey, sister, Carrey Sue Harriman, and
nephew, Christopher "Bubba" Smith, Terry’s memory will be cherished as a guiding light
and a source of comfort. As we bid farewell to Terry Jean "MeMe" Stanton, we celebrate a life lived with an abundance of love and a heart that knew no bounds.
Her legacy of kindness and selflessness will continue to inspire all who were blessed to
know her. May she rest in peace, enveloped in the love she so freely gave.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, July 27, at Dogwood Hills Baptist Church in Palestine.
