Sandra Joyce “Sandi” Jones
Sandra Joyce “Sandi” Jones, of Groesbeck, passed away at Limestone Medical Center in Groesbeck, on Sunday, January 2, 2022, at age 74. Jones was born Nov. 3, 1947, to Elbia Ralph Watkins and Rosella Estelle Jackson Watkins in Houston.
She grew up and attended school in Houston. As a young lady, Sandi was united in marriage with William Atwood, who was the father of her son, Wally Atwood, and they lived in Louisiana before divorcing. She spent many years in Houston and was married to Billy Jones who was the father of her two daughters, Elizabeth and Virginia Jennifer.
Her father was born in Limestone County at Box Church, and Sandi’s life involved another move to Groesbeck where she lived the rest of her life. She worked at the hospital and the nursing home until she retired after many years working at Windsor in Groesbeck.
Sandi was baptized in 1997 at the United Pentecostal Church in Groesbeck.
Sandi was a woman with a big heart. She loved her kids and her grandchildren, always wanting to hug and kiss them. She enjoyed sewing for the grandchildren or making curtains for the family.
Although her life was all about her grandchildren, she was also a very giving woman to anyone, even strangers, if she knew they were struggling; she would buy groceries or help them any way she could. She chose to help everyone else more than herself.
Sandra was preceded in death by her parents; her son, Wally Atwood who died in 2009 at age 43; brother, Tony Watkins; sister, April Watkins; brothers, David Watkins and Richard Watkins and halfbrothers William, Johnny and Timothy Ivers.
She is survived by her daughter, Elizabeth Harris of Groesbeck; daughter and son-in-law, Jennifer and Kelly Wilson of Mexia; grandson, Bobby and his wife Katy Pelton of Mexia; granddaughter, Ashleigh Pelton of Mexia; great grandchildren, Claire Pelton, Brenden Pelton, Harper Pelton, and Cooper Pelton, all of Mexia; sister, Elgan Burrows of Groesbeck; sister and brother-in-law, Della and Paul Ferguson of Splendora; brother and sister-in-law, Jimbo and Janice Watkins of Cut & Shoot; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 5 at Old Union Cemetery, with Pastor Darren Killingsworth of the United Pentecostal Church of Groesbeck officiating.
Honorary pallbearers will be Gary Jones, Bobby Pelton, Kelly Wilson, Jimbo Watkins and J W Watkins.
