Sally Irene Steele

Sally Irene Steele passed away in Groesbeck, Texas on June 22, 2021 at the age of 93. Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, June 25, 2021 at Blair-Stubbs Funeral Home with Rev. Clifton Jones officiating. Interment was in the Mexia Cemetery. Justin Wareham, Clifton Gene Steele, Caleb Wayne Sosebee, Aaron Frazier, Rocky C. Bullard and Nate Daniels served as pallbearers.

Sally was born September 10, 1927 in Hot Springs, Arkansas to Arthur David and Sally (Milner) Martin. Sally married Gene C. Steele, Sr. on February 16, 1942 in Corpus Christi, Texas; they were blessed with almost 73 wonderful years together, prior to his death on January 28, 2015. She spent her life raising their four children, taking care of their home, and working with Gene in his upholstery business. Sally was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She loved nothing more than having her home filled with family, not only on holidays, but anytime.

Sally had two chihuahuas, Precious and Sissy, that she dearly loved. She also loved to cook, sew, and eating Butter Pecan ice cream (every night). In earlier years, she and Gene enjoyed traveling to Blue Grass concerts together.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Arthur and Sally Martin; husband, Gene Steele, Sr.; son, Gene Steele, Jr.; sister, Gladys Tuggle; and brothers, Coy and Earl Martin.

Sally is survived by her three children, Jeanette Hykel of Groesbeck, Clifton R. Steele of Groesbeck, and Rocky Steele of Ennis; 14 grandchildren; twenty-five great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
