Ross Allen Harper, Sr.
Ross Allen Harper, Sr. (“Rooster”, “Santa Ross”) age 64 of Groesbeck, Texas, went to be with the Lord January 4, 2022. He was born January 30th, 1957, in Galveston, Texas to William Elijah Harper, Sr. and Margaret Elizabeth (Smitheal) Harper. He had three brothers: William (Bill), James (Jimmy) and Larry. Ross was preceded in death by his parents, brothers William (Bill) and Larry, and twin daughters Melody and Melony.
Ross was born on Galveston Island, (“BOGI”), but spent most of his formative years in Pasadena, Texas. He graduated from Sam Rayburn High School in 1976. In 1990, he married Sheryl Lynn Prendki in Cypress, Texas where they would remain for 25 years, raising their family. After over 35 years of service with AT&T, Ross retired in 2007 and immediately began his search for farmland to call his own. In 2013, he found his dream piece of property, left the hustle and bustle of Houston, and moved to Groesbeck to pursue his lifelong dream of owning and living on a farm. He created a home for his family, much of which was done with his own hands, and a welcoming destination for his many grandchildren and friends to enjoy.
Ross was larger than life and a man with many roles - husband, father, grandparent, patriarch, mentor, teacher, life coach and the list goes on. He was a man among men with a plethora of talents and hobbies. Among them were fisherman, hunter, singer, artist, carpenter, electrician, scout leader, baseball coach, softball umpire, farmer and a great storyteller just to name a few. There was nothing he would not undertake or do for his family. He was an incredibly generous man with a great sense of humor and an infectious laugh. His passing leaves a huge hole in the family and the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
Ross is survived by his wife Sheryl; children, Ross Jr. (J.R.), Austin, Reid, Aaron, Richard and wife, Abby; nine grandchildren; brother James (Jimmy) and wife Melba; sister and brother in laws Drenda, Susan, Joy, Jim, Joe and Shannon; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Ross’ wishes are that you not grieve for him, for his earthly strife is behind, and he is now at rest and peace. He wants you to remember the good times we had together and know that God granted him a great family and a very blessed life.
Family and friends will gather to honor Ross during a Celebration of Life memorial gathering at 1 p.m. Saturday, January 22, at Waltrip Funeral Directors, 1415 Campbell Road in Houston, Texas, 77055.
