Rodney Joe “R.J.” Curton
Rodney Joe “R.J.” Curton of Groesbeck, passed away Tuesday, February 8, 2022, at age 60.
Graveside services were held Friday, February 11, 2022, at Fairview Cemetery in Hubbard, with Rev. John Carabin of the Living Proof Church of Groesbeck officiating.
Rodney was born July 19, 1961, to Donald Joe Curton and Darlene Dolores (Davis) Curton in Waco. He grew up in Irving and attended Nimitz High School.
R.J. previously worked for Lockridge-Priest A/C in Waco and for the family-owned business, Cen-Tex Precut Produce, while living in Waco. He moved to Groesbeck and worked again with his family at Billy B’s Café in Groesbeck and then started his own lawn care service. He had been severely injured about seven years ago when a car hit him on his motorcycle, and he has endured a long period in working toward recovery.
Earlier in life, he really enjoyed car racing, which was something he picked up naturally from his dad who was an amateur race car driver. He also enjoyed all things motorcycle. He liked going out in the boat at the lake and pulling the kids for skiing and tubing. He liked to tinker and had the natural skill to repair lawn mowers and other mechanical equipment. He enjoyed spending time with his grandson Holden and granddaughter Cheyenne.
R.J. was preceded in death by his great grandmother, Thelma Webb; his mother, Darlene Dolores Davis; maternal grandparents, Bill and Anetha Mounce; paternal grandparents, Joe Edd and Kitty Curton and an aunt, Billie June Davis.
He is survived by his father and bonus mom, Donald Joe and Darlene Curton of Dallas; son and daughter-in-law, Wesley and Connie Curton of Groesbeck; grandchildren, Holden Curton and Cheyenne Curton; sister and brother-inlaw, Billy and Brinda Brown of Groesbeck; brother, Dustin Davis and wife Sharon of Midlothian; brother, Donald Davis and wife Kim of Watauga; aunt, Wanda Priest of China Spring; life-long friend, Denise “Neicy” Duke; several cousins and nieces and nephews.
