Patricia Jane Rand
On Tuesday, May the 16th, 2023, as the sun came out from behind the clouds and warmed her peaceful face, our Beautiful Mother; donning her kilt of green with white stockings, her tam cocked just right and her head held high, took a deep breath and lined up behind the Drum and Bugle Corps of her beloved Scottish Brigade and marched down the field one last time and straight into heaven.
Visitation will be held in the Groesbeck Funeral Home Chapel on Friday, May 19, 2023, from 5:00 7:00 p.m.
Graveside services will be at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 20, 2023, at the Pavilion in Faulkenberry Cemetery, with Brother Richard Williams of the Groesbeck Church of Christ officiating.
Patricia Jane McGann Rand was born to Zeta Pearl and Robert McGann on October 10, 1936, in Lake Charles Louisiana. She was raised in Houston, Texas, where she was a proud member of the famous Stephen F. Austin High School Scottish Brigade.
She began working at Oshman’s Sporting Goods at an early age, later going to work in the stenography pool at Phillips Petroleum Company, where she met and married Billy Tom Rand. They had three children and resided in Waco, Houston and finally settled in Beaumont Texas, to start a gasoline/ petroleum retail marketing company in 1967. Mother was a hard worker and was instrumental in the success of the business, which was later sold to her youngest, Scott, who has continued to grow the business and prosper ever since.
Being raised as a City Girl, Mom always had the dream of moving to the country. Once able, Mom and her dear friend Roy Seal, built her beloved “Bull Creek Ranch” near Iola, Texas. Albeit a small ranch, it was greater than the King Ranch to her and she loved it. She had ten wonderful years at the ranch until illness forced her to move back to Beaumont.
She was always full of fight and vigor; beating heart failure and surgery, numerous surgeries related to breast cancer, radiation, chemotherapy, and a number of other resulting illnesses. She was watched over by her daughter, Dianna and son, Scott for a few years in Beaumont. When her immobility began to take its toll, she moved to Dianna’s home in Willis, Texas, where Dianna nursed her around the clock for the last 2+ years. Her energy and fight were only surpassed by her love of family and friends. She was very peaceful and could take a lot; but mess with her loved ones and the Scots’ Irish in her shown as if she would take on a bear to defend them.
She leaves behind three+ children: Dianna DeLynn (DeeDee) Farrar and husband Butch Farrar; William Mark Rand and his wife Julia Renee Wootton Rand (JuJu); and Russell Scott (Scotty) Rand and his wife Shannon Elizabeth Cuffman Rand; and the + was who she referred to as her “Unofficial Third Son”, our lifelong friend and her beloved York Patterson (Yorkus), and his wife Vicky Patterson. She had four very loved grandchildren and grand spouses; Dianna’ son Derek Jenkins, Mark’s daughter Callie Rand Saxton, BSN, RN, CEN and her husband Jeff Saxton; Scott’s daughter Taryn Ashley Rand, DVM and her husband Mathew Kappes; Scott’s son Bryan Tanner Rand, CPA. and his partner Jessica Hewett, CPA.
Two great grandchildren were able to know their “Granny”: Derek’s son Dylan Jenkins and Callie’s son Cohen Saxton. Mother was known by many names. She was Patty or Patty Jane to most, Mom to her children and Granny to most others. But whatever she was called, she was loved by everyone and one of the most giving and caring ladies ever. Her love was unyielding and will be missed a great deal.
