Mary Agnes Ferrill

Mary Agnes Ferrill, of Box Church, passed away at her home on Thursday, October 13, 2022, at age 95.

Funeral services were held in the Groesbeck Funeral Home Chapel on Saturday, October 15, 2022, with Brother Larry Wilson of the Davis Prairie Church of Christ officiating. Burial followed in Hogan Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Chris Aills, Keith Aills, Kenneth Copeland, Travis Crowson, Ben Lee Watson, and Matthew Watson. Honorary pallbearers were Howard Medlock, Frank Crowson, and Morris Nettles.

Mary was born October 25, 1926, to Herman Kueber and Otillia (Feidler) Kueber at Park Rapids, Minnesota in a family with 13 children (2 of which died at birth). She grew up in Minnesota and when she was grown, she moved to south Texas. Mary was very family oriented and made a point to visit the family in Minnesota every year, calling her siblings who had moved to other states to be sure they would all be there together.

Mary was a hard worker and worked hard all her life. She began preparing the family desserts as a teenager and worked in Minnesota in a bakery, and then in south Texas she worked in a café. While working at the café she met Maybell Nettles and she lived with Maybell and Odis. Through this family she met her husband, Clyde.

Mary Agnes and Clyde W. Ferrill married and moved to Dallas where he worked. Their son was born in Dallas and her daughters were born in Groesbeck. In Dallas, she worked for Taylor Publishing, which printed school yearbooks. Although the family stayed in Dallas during the week while Clyde and Mary worked, they came to Box Church on the weekends and always considered Box Church to be “home.” In the summer of 1968, they moved permanently to Box Church. She worked at the sewing factory in Mexia and the Mexia State School, working day and night for a while at both places. She retired after seventeen years at the State School.

Although retired from her jobs, she remained a hard worker and was always busy. In her younger years she enjoyed riding her horse “Old Yeller” with Jasper White as well as fishing. She might be found building fence, working on the house, or woodworking. She loved gardening, shopping for roses and raising them, picking up pecans, sewing, and quilting, and especially enjoyed ceramics, watching the hummingbirds in her feeders, and raising her poodles. She especially loved her family, all of her siblings, children, grandchildren, and greatgrandchildren, and would do anything for them, or for anyone else who needed her help. She leaves behind a large family with many lives she has touched with her love.

Mary has been preceded in death by her parents, Herman Joseph and Otillia Kueber; husband, Clyde Ferrill; brothers, Joe, George, Leo, Barney, Herman “Pete”, Marse, and Paul “Shorty” Kueber; sister, Margaret “Maggie” Hein; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Herbert Hein, J.C. and Marie White, Elana Kueber, and Delores Kueber; and three grandchildren, Kelby Keith Aills, Lara Sullivan, and Mary-Jane Hensley.

She is survived by a son, David Ferrill of Box Church; daughter Margaret Ferrill of Box Church; daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Frank Crowson of Box Church; daughter and son-in-law, Lisa and Howard Medlock of Groesbeck.

There are 8 grandchildren and their spouses: Chris and wife Lauren Aills (Groesbeck), Keith Aills (Box Church), Kenneth and wife Kelley Copeland (Groesbeck), her special close granddaughter, Sherry Copeland (Box Church), Travis and wife Terra Crowson (Box Church), Mandy and husband Michael Hensley (Axtell), Ben Lee and wife Pattie Watson (Box Church), Matthew and wife Mary Watson (Groesbeck). Her 11 great-grandchildren are: Kellen Copeland and Stran Copeland (Groesbeck), Kaitlyn Copeland and Colter Copeland (Groesbeck), Karley Mayhugh (Groesbeck), Chandler Aills (Groesbeck), Marilyn Gore (Axtell), Marshall Hensley (Axtell), Jessica Watson and Mason Watson (Box Church), Matthew Watson, Marcus Watson, and Caleb Watson (Groesbeck).

Her surviving siblings are: brother, Nick Kueber of Sun Prairie Wisconsin; brother and sister-in-law, Duane and Kris Kueber of Park Rapids, Minnesota; sisters-in-law, Marie Kueber of Park Rapids, Meena Kueber of Park Rapids and Judy Kueber of Crivitz, Wisconsin. Also, surviving are a special niece, Jennifer Horbelt of Denver, CO, and a special friend, Morris Wayne Nettles, and many nieces and nephews.
