Marvis was born May 7, 1935, to Marvin Stinson and Gertrude Lucy (Thurman) Stinson in Thornton, TX. She grew up in Oletha, TX where she attended Thornton High School graduating in the Class of 1953 as the salutatorian.
Marvis was united in marriage with Billy Gene Hancock on February 19, 1953, in Oletha. They met at a southern gospel concert where their love of the Lord and gospel music brought them together. They soon married and brought four beautiful children into the world. They raised their family with Christian values and were faithful members of various Baptist churches as they lived in different towns in Texas. They raised their children primarily in Angleton, TX where they were members of Second Baptist Church.
Marvis was a secretary of Marathon Tank Car and wonderful supporter of Bill in his business adventures. Bill and Marvis relocated to Bryan, TX when they had an empty nest. They were members of Northview Baptist. Marvis and Bill then moved back to their roots and built a home on her family’s property, where they had a beautiful farm house with acreage, a lake, and cattle. Marvis enjoyed gardening with Bill, watching the squirrels, visiting with her friends, hosting her family, singing in the choir that Bill led, and traveling to hear Bill sing with his quartet. Marvis enjoyed spending hours a day on the phone talking with her daughters and friends.
Marvis and Bill left their beloved home to move closer to their children in Angleton in 2013 when Bill’s health declined. Marvis thoroughly enjoyed being closer to her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She returned to Second Baptist Church of Angleton where she loved hearing Pastor Chris Moore preach. She had a recent decline in her health which led to her being placed on hospice. She had very caring nurses and family at her side for five weeks until she peacefully passed and joined her husband Bill, and other loved ones in Heaven.
Marvis will always be remembered by her family for being a faithful Christian, loving, caring, a worrier of all, the telephone queen, and always being dressed up with lipstick on.
Marvis was preceded in death by her parents and her husband Billy G. Hancock in 2015.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Debbie and David Myers of Carencro, LA; son and daughter-in-law, Ronald and Monica Hancock of Angleton, TX; son and daughter-in-law, David and Dana Hancock of Angleton, TX; and daughter, Renee Hancock of Angleton, TX.
