Lester LaVerne Fahle
Lester LaVerne Fahle, 92, passed away at Limestone Medical Center on July 28, 2020. He was born on February 18, 1928 in Ft. Worth, TX, to Roland and Lena (Rickey) Fahle.
In his youth he lived in Texas, Missouri, and finally settled in Heyworth, Illinois in the 6th grade, where he lived until he graduated from high school. While living in Heyworth he met the love of his life, Effie Rickard. After high school, he joined the Marine Corp and then used the GI bill to go to radio school in Chicago, Ill. After graduating, he got a job in seismograph. He was working in Hill City, Kansas when Effie joined him and they married on June 26th 1948. During his course of 38 years working in seismograph, they lived at 75 different addresses. He used to say “I’ve worked from the Gulf of Mexico to Prudhoe Bay, Alaska”.
When he retired in 1985, they made their home on Lake Limestone. Lester and Effie spent their retirement years fishing, playing with their grandchildren, and traveling in a motor home they built together. Lester also enjoyed woodworking, from intricate cutout pictures to building his dock and converting a peanut van into a motorhome.
He will be remembered for his outgoing, friendly personality, sense of humor, his storytelling and love of his family. He loved to talk about his life and he never met a stranger.
Lester was preceded in death by his wife of 71 years, Effie, his parents Roland and Lena Fahle, his son, Eddie Fahle and his brother, Bill Fahle.
He is survived by his daughter, Regena Fahle (Kenneth) Smith of Groesbeck, four grandchildren: Kimberly Fahle (MacKenzie) Moore of McKinney TX, Trista Fahle (Scott) Lutz of Hamilton, TX, Cassandra Smith Bindea of Groesbeck, TX ,Jeffrey (Amanda) Smith of Pflugerville, TX and ten great-grandchildren.
There will be no funeral or celebration of life at this time, due to the current health concerns. Donations may be made in his name to Old Union Church of Christ, 5932 FM 937, Groesbeck, TX 76642.
