Larry Wallace Nicholson
Larry Wallace Nicholson of Groesbeck passed away at home on Thursday, September 20, 2018, at age 71.
A Memorial Service was held on Tuesday, September 25, 2018 in the Groesbeck Funeral Home Chapel.
Larry was born in Laurel, Mississippi to Jay Wallace Nicholson and Mary Zell Strong Little on April 30, 1947. He lived in Mississippi until moving to Groesbeck where he graduated from High School, in the Class of 1966.
Larry was a Vietnam War veteran. He served in the U. S. Army in Vietnam, trained in shooting double fifty-caliber machine guns, in the unit called the “24 Hour Men.” After his honorable discharge he worked for the railroad, then worked in mobile home transport, and then worked for ten years for R Construction Co. in Buffalo, until he retired in 2011. Six years ago he opened the “Last Call Saloon” in Thornton which he operated until his death. He liked to go there on Tuesdays to play “42” with his group. He really enjoyed his grandchildren and loved to aggravate them.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents; his sister-inlaw, Edie Helen Nicholson; and niece, Tammie Lynn Nicholson.
He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Janice and Bryan Marschall of Groesbeck; son, Larry Nicholson of Charlotte, NC; daughter, Debbie Doss of Groesbeck; 5 grandchildren: Alec Nicholson, Christopher Taylor, Megan Brooks, Kaitlyn Doss, and Joshua Messer; and a great-granddaughter, Leighton Brooks; his brother, Robert Nicholson of Groesbeck; and sisters, Denise Bond and Bob Barrington of Utica, MS and Diane and Henry Sanders of Utica, MS.
