Larry Neal Nolan

Larry Neal Nolan, age 67, passed away peacefully at his home in Kosse, Texas, on Thursday, Aug. 29, 2024. Larry was born on Monday, Oct. 29, 1956, in Bryan, Texas, to Milton and Peggy Nolan and grew up in Brazos and Robertson counties. He graduated from Hearne High School in 1975 and earned a Bachelor of Science in Mechanized Agriculture from Texas A&M University in 1979.
Larry and his first wife, Sandra, were married from 1980 until her death in 2006. They raised their three children, Sarah, Gary, and Jerry, together at their home in Limestone County. He and his current wife, Sharon, have spent the past 17 years herding both cattle and grandchildren together at their ranch in Kosse, Texas.
Throughout his three decades of teaching high school physics, chemistry, and robotics, Larry Nolan touched the lives of hundreds of students across Bremond I.S.D., Franklin I.S.D., and Mart I.S.D. Many of these students carry wonderful memories of “Mr. Nolan,” who they always recall as their favorite teacher.
After retiring from teaching, Larry devoted his time to raising cattle. He spent several afternoons a week swapping stories with his many “best friends” at Groesbeck Auction & Livestock Barn and other sale barns in the area. When he wasn’t at a sale, you could often find Larry toting a grandchild somewhere to go fishing, to ride horses, or to just roam around in the pickup or side-by-side checking on cows. They loved any time they got to spend with their Paw, aka Papaw.
Larry Nolan never met a stranger, and he was always the first person to lend a hand to family, neighbors, and friends who needed help. Everyone who knew Larry will miss his boisterous laugh, quick sense of humor, and easygoing personality. To know Larry Nolan was to know a friend.
Larry was preceded in death by his first wife, Sandra Nolan, eldest son, Gary Nolan, and parents, Milton and Peggy Nolan.
He will be deeply missed by his wife, Sharon Nolan, of Kosse, Texas; daughter, Sarah Nolan, who is currently stationed in Germany with the U.S. Army; son, Jerry Nolan and wife Crystal of Thornton, Texas, and their children, Gary, Camryn, and Josie; stepson, Ryan Haynie and wife Lacey of Kosse, Texas, and their children, Russ, Gracelee, and Leddy; and stepson Zach Haynie and wife Jenny, of Kosse, Texas, and their children, Colt and Luke.
Survivors also include his brother, Lloyd Nolan, and wife, Belinda, of Bryan, Texas; brother Leslie Nolan and wife, Melissa, of Franklin, Texas; sister, Rhonda Nolan, of Bryan, Texas; and sister-in-law, Debbie Nolan, of Bryan. Larry will also be missed by his nieces, nephews, and cousins, as well as countless former students and friends.
Graveside services were held on Tuesday, Sept. 3, at Ebenezer Cemetery, Kosse, with Pastor Lynn Kemp officiating.
