Jim Edward Marler
Jim Edward Marler, Sr. of Groesbeck, passed away at home on Tuesday, December 11, 2018, at age 71.
A Memorial service will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Saturday, December 15, 2018 in the Groesbeck Funeral Home Chapel, with Pastor George Ibarra officiating.
Jim was born February 4, 1947 to Jim Merdock Marler and Dovie (Andrews) Marler in Crockett. He grew up and went to school in Houston. He worked with his Dad in the construction business when he was old enough, and they built some of the finest houses in River Oaks and the first ones in the Woodlands.
Jim was united in marriage with Joyce Clements on November 11, 1966 and they lived in Houston. Jim was multi-talented, and after working in construction for a long time, he worked in a chemical plant in Houston, then did machine shop work, and later worked in security, which he really enjoyed. He retired after he suffered health problems.
In 1999, the family moved from Houston to Groesbeck. On their way home from a trip to Mineral Wells, they were passing through his area and Joyce fell in love with the country in Limestone County, so within six months they moved here. Some of their first friends here were the J.R. Tapley family, and he worked part-time for J. R. for a while. Jim liked horses and enjoyed taking care of the ones he acquired after moving here. His granddaughter, Shelby also enjoyed the horses with him. Jim also loved his trucks throughout his life. He enjoyed taking care of and tinkering with his trucks, and he loved to just sit in the truck listening to Chuck Berry.
After Jim’s wife Joyce passed away on May 17, 2007, he was glad to have his sons and their families nearby in Groesbeck. During the past year’s battle with cancer, especially since August, his sons and daughter-in-law, and oldest granddaughter Connie provided the care and support he needed.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents; infant sister, Joyce Marie Marler; and wife, Joyce Marie Marler.
He is survived by son and daughter-in-law, Jim and Janie Marler of Groesbeck; son, James Marler of Groesbeck; grandchildren: Connie and husband, Wesley Curton of Groesbeck, Heather and husband, Justin Perkins of Brandon, Mississippi, Jim and wife, Nikie Marler of Groesbeck, Shelby Marler of Waco, Samuel and wife, Kelsey Marler of Groesbeck, Justin Marler of Groesbeck, and Ryan Marler of Groesbeck; and ten great grandchildren.
