Jason Marler

On Sunday January 2, Jason Marler passed from this earth surrounded by family and loved ones, after a long hard battle with colon cancer, he now is at peace.

Marler was born on October 13, 1971, in Sinton, Tx. to Thomas (Tom) Monroe Marler and Barbara Lucille (Lowe) Marler. He grew up and attended school in Aransas Pass until the family moved to Mexia when his father went to work at the power plant at Jewett.

In Mexia, Marler found tons of lifelong friends. He played little league baseball to high school football and was a Blackcat through and through. He had a passion for singing, with a beautiful voice and was a member of the Mexia High School choir. He was a member of MHS graduation class of 1990, and attended Navarro College on a choir scholarship.

Marler met the love of his life, Monica Morrison, in Mexia and they were joined together in marriage on July 13, 1993. They welcomed a child to their family on February 4, 1997, Reagan , who he lovingly called “kid.”

The family made their home in Groesbeck for many years. He worked for Hobbs Bonded Fibers for 14 years. It was while working there that he decided, with the encouragement of his boss, Bob Rawlings, to go back to school and get his degree in safety. He not only got his associate, and bachelors, he also got his masters degree in environmental science.

While pursuing those degrees, he changed jobs so he could devote more time to studies and went to work for Tuttle and Tuttle Trucking in Mexia. There he forged new friendships with the drivers and his bosses, Velvet Zeidler and Leon Laroache and several other co-workers.

It was that degree that brought the big move to College Station, where he got a job with US Well Services (USWS). The friendships made there were awesome. His boss, Anthony Celano, Brian Lamont, Joey Moak, Stacy Smith and all the Crew members meant the world to Jason. The ACME crew was just as special to him, especially Sarah Begley and Mike Stacy. Lifelong bonds were made there.

Marler always had some project going, whether it was his idea or Monica’s. Jason and Monica loved the beach. As often as they could, they would head to their most favorite spot on the map, Port A. They got a chance this past November to go, which would be his last. He got to spend time down there with his big brother Tommy and his wife Denise. That truly meant the world to him. He loved his family and was also just as close to his sister Karen and brother Larry. He called them often to check in and get their advice.

He was preceded in death by his loving parents, Tom and Barbara Marler; paternal grandparents, Virgil and Mary Helen (Babe) Marler; maternal grandparents, Dudley and Frances (Bam Bam) Lowe; bonus mom, Cindy Hewitt; Paw Paw, Charlie Marshall; grandmother-in-law Georgie Murphey; grandfather-in-law, Jimmy Murphey; fatherin-law, Jerry Lynn Watson, Sr. and uncle-in-law, Bobby Lee.

Those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 28 years, Monica Marler of College Station; his one and only “ kid,” Reagan Marler of College Station; brother and sister-in-law, Tommy and Denise Dicus of Corpus Christi; brother Larry Collier and his fiancé, Lori Lipton of New Braunfels; and sister and brother-in-law, Karen and Michael Loper of Helotes.

He is also survived by aunt, great aunt, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews; Monica’s parents and siblings, who were like family to him; bonus dad, Danny Hewitt; special brother, Anthony Celano of College Station; special bonus kid, Dakota (Cody) Miller of Eva Beach, Hawaii; special aunt, Mary Ann Denison of Aransas Pass; and his “brother from another”-James Wright, Jr.

Special Pallbearers will be James Wright Jr, Anthony Celano, Brian Quaca, Jody Goodman, Cody Miller, Cullen Freeman, Carson Freeman, David Romero, Steve Hurt, Brian Lamont, Joey Moak, Keesey King, Mike Stacy, Kyle Williams, Danny Gordon, Mathis Felan, Mike Childs and Jim Bob Cronk.

The family would like to thank Anthony Celano, their Church Family at Rock Prairie Baptist Church (College Station), Pastor Jon Honea, Pastor Woody Cash and Lianne Cash , Pastor Nathaniel Bedford and Pastor Robert Smith for all the many prayers, phone calls, after hours visits, emergency visits and mostly all the love given to them in their times of need. Monica wants to remind us that all the prayers for a miracle were heard and indeed we did get that miracle.

Our Jason went home pain and cancer free.

Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. on Saturday, January 22, in the Groesbeck Funeral Home Chapel.
