Henry Marvin Hearne

Henry Marvin Hearne, of Groesbeck, passed away at Baylor Scott & White Hillcrest Medical Center in Waco on Tuesday, May 3, 2022, at age 79.

The family will hold a Memorial service at a future date.

Henry was born January 14, 1943, to Elmo Ray Hearne and Beulah Bertha (McFarland) Hearne in Cameron. He grew up in Cameron and graduated from C.H. Yoe High School in the early ‘60s.

Immediately after graduation, Henry enlisted in the U.S. Navy, and served four years, including being on a ship during the Cuban Missile Crisis in 1962. His ship was in the fleet which was prepared for defense of the United States. They had been at sea so long the ship was getting close to running out of food before the crisis ended.

Henry was stationed at Norfolk, Virginia and had met through friends, a young lady from Brockway, Pennsylvania. When he was honorably discharged, Henry and Audrey Feldman were united in marriage in Brockway, with a marriage that endured the next 39 years. They lived near Brookville, and although they had no children of their own, they considered their neighbor’s child, Rhonda, to be like their own daughter. Henry worked as an auto mechanic and later in a factory, where he worked until his retirement.

After Henry’s wife passed away in 2003, he wanted to move back to Texas. While driving around Central Texas, he saw a sign for a house for sale near Lake Limestone. Having been an outdoorsman all his life who loved hunting and fishing, he bought the house. He has lived near and fished at the lake the past 18 years, with his family visiting him there occasionally. Henry was a quiet man but could joke around with his family and friends. He was kind and generous and would do anything to help anybody all his life, and especially liked helping older people.

Henry was preceded in death by his father in 1977; his mother in 2001; his wife, Audrey in 2003; his brother, Paul Hearne; sister and brother-in-law, Emma Ruth and Fred Bille; and a nephew, Stephen Bille.

He is survived by his sister and brother-in-law, Janna and Tim Dixon of Lorena; three nieces and their husbands who lived closest to him, Jennifer and husband Jeff Stinson of Lorena, Shauna and Curtis Petty of Waco, and Amanda and Matt Sampson of Waco; seven more nieces and nephews; many great and great-great nieces and nephews; sister-in-law, Cindy Hearne; and Rhonda in PA who had been like a daughter to him.
