George “Woody” Woodruff, Jr.

Funeral Services for George “Woody” Woodruff, Jr. will be held on Sunday, March 23, at 2 p.m. at First United Methodist Church in Teague Bro. Scott Matthews will officiate. Interment will follow at Greenwood Cemetery with U.S. Army Honors.
Visitation will be held at Bowers Funeral Home on Saturday with the family present from 6 until 8 p.m.
George “Woody” Woodruff, Jr. was born to George Humphreys Woodruff Sr. and Bonnie Cox Woodruff on Aug. 12, 1947, in Teague. Woody passed away at his home in Teague on March 18, 2025.
He grew up in Teague and graduated from Teague High School with the class of 1965. After high school, he attended Navarro College before entering into service in the U.S. Army and served in the Vietnam War. Mr. Woodruff was proud of his military service and received the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Good Conduct Medal, and Marksman Badge. After his war service he returned to college and graduated with a bachelor’s degree from the University of North Texas. Mr. Woodruff was active in the Teague community for many years. He served on the Teague Chamber of Commerce and coached his kids in various little league sports. He retired from the Limestone County Juvenile Detention Center in Groesbeck and made a positive influence on many he met there.
Woody loved taking walks on his land and raising cattle. He was a longtime member of the First United Methodist Church in Teague and a faithful believer in God.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Bonnie Cox Woodruff; father, George Woodruff Sr; and son, Tobe Woodruff.
He is survived by his wife, Brenda Woodruff; daughters, Bonnie Woodruff, fiancé Kurtis Banish and
Andee Fortson and husband Robert Fortson, grandchildren, Geordan Woodruff, Allee (Poo) Fortson and her “better-half” Tanner Ledford, Tobe Padgett, Cameron Fortson, Christopher Gardner, and Kason Fortson; niece, Jenni Ortiz and cousin, Cissy Maggard.
