Gary Dale Mattix
Gary Dale Mattix, age 79, of Groesbeck, Texas, passed away peacefully to be with the Lord on January 22, 2025. He was born on October 23, 1945, in Nowata, Oklahoma, and proudly served his country in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War.
Gary’s life was marked by his love for the Lord, his family, his deep patriotism, a passion for the outdoors, and the strong bonds he shared with friends and loved ones. He was married to his beloved wife, Robinette, for 45 wonderful years. Together, they shared a lifetime of love and joy, including their shared passion for dancing. Whether in the living room or on a night out, they found happiness in each other’s company, and their love for one another was an inspiration to all who knew them.
An avid outdoorsman, Gary cherished his time spent bird hunting with his longtime friend, Merwyn Foster. The bond they shared in the field was something Gary held dear throughout his life, and he deeply valued the camaraderie of their friendship. He was also proud of his accomplishments in seismic data management, where he dedicated his career to advancing the field with precision and excellence.
Gary is survived by his loving wife, Robinette Mattix; children Aaron Mattix, Stephanie Burnitt (Randall Burnitt); siblings Dorothy Hugo, Sandra Foster, Linda Ditto (Rick Ditto), and Sharon Phillips (Fred Phillips); grandchildren Russell Mattix, Jr. (Kinsey Mattix), Kayla Anguiano, Kyle Anguiano (MaKayla Anguiano), Krestyl Rodriguez (Brett Rodriguez), Karah Anguiano-Gonzalez (Kyle Gonzalez), Aaron B. Mattix, and Katelinn Burnitt; great-grandchildren Rylan Mattix, Lieum Anguiano, Willow Mattix, David Rodriguez, Rosalie Rodriguez, Magnolia Mattix, Eli Gonzalez, Lily Rodriguez, Sunnie Anguiano, and soon-to-arrive great-grandchildren, Baby girl Gonzalez (due March 2025) and Baby Anguiano (due August 2025) and numerous wonderful nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his son, Russell Eugene Mattix; granddaughter Kassidie LeeAnn Burnitt; parents Robert William Mattix and Minnie Juanita Howell Mattix; siblings Robert Oren Mattix, Mary Ellen Ladd, and Larey Gene Mattix; and dear friend Merwyn Foster.
Gary will be remembered for his kindness, loyalty, and unwavering love for his family, friends, and the Lord. His legacy of faith, compassion, and dedication will continue to inspire those whose lives he touched, ensuring that his spirit endures for generations to come.
A memorial service to honor Gary’s life will be held at Groesbeck Funeral Home, located at 1215 E Yeagua St, Groesbeck, TX 76642, at 2 PM on Saturday, February 1, 2025. Family and friends are invited to gather for visitation beginning at 1 PM.
