Eugene McCall
Eugene McCall, age 74, passed away on Oct. 31, 2024 at home in Houston, Texas. The funeral service was held Saturday, Nov. 16 at New Loyalty Baptist Church in Houston.
He was born in Shreveport, Louisiana on March 23, 1950 and was raised in Houston, Texas.
In 1969, Eugene married his first wife, Rosa. They adopted two children, Daniel and Tiawana McCall.
Eugene was hired by Texas Genco. On May 7, 1970, he was transferred to the Houston Lighting and Power plant near Jewett. At that time, he moved to nearby Oakwood, Texas. He retired May 15, 2005.
Eugene McCall was joined in holy matrimony to Debbie Wilson in 2000.
In 2006, he and his wife, Debbie, opened a business in Mexia, McCall’s Touch of Class, a gift shop, car detailing, and beauty salon.
In 2006, Eugene was hired by Luminant Mining Co. in Fairfield, Texas where he worked about 10 years as a dedicated employee. Eugene was awarded numerous accolades throughout his career for his outstanding work performance and his ability to inspire and direct his teams. His professional achievements were a testament to his commitment and skill.
Due to his illness, he had to move back to Houston from his home in Oakwood, Texas in 2019.
Eugene’s faith was the cornerstone of his life. On July 9, 2000, he united with Mt. Gideon Baptist Church in Doyle, Texas under the leadership of Pastor Larry Gray. A devoted and active member, Eugene served as a deacon and choir member, bringing warmth, faith, and camaraderie to his church community. He was known for his kindness and genuine spirit, and he made everyone around him feel welcomed and valued.
Eugene had many talents and hobbies. On his off time, he loved to visit his family. Family was his second priority after his job. He enjoyed fishing and barbequing. He and his work crew were part of the HL&P Barbeque Cook-off every year in Houston.
Eugene’s father, Willie McCall, preceded him in death.
Eugene leaves to cherish his memory his mother, Pearlie B. McCall, sister, Diane McCall, one niece, Ursula White, and one nephew, Tim York, all of Houston, Texas. He is also survived by adopted children, Daniel McCall of Houston, Texas and Tiawana McCall of Missouri, Debbie McCall of Groesbeck, foster daughters, Mironda Johnson of Crowley, Texas and Juliana Baker (Thadrus) of Killeen, Texas, grandsons, Casimiur Bell of Clarksville, Tennessee, Charles Edward (Tre) Johnson of Aledo, Texas, Kyran Lilly of Waco, Texas, Terrance Johnson of Groesbeck, Texas, Ja’Len Jackson, Isaiah Baker, and Ivan Baker of Killeen, Texas, granddaughter, Bre’Anna Johnson of Crowley, Texas, and a host of other relatives and friends.
