Elsie Shugart
Elsie Shugart passed away peacefully at home on Friday, April 17, 2020 at the age of 100.
Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, April 22, at the Faulkenberry Cemetery Pavilion, with Rev. Daryl Hatley officiating.
Pallbearers will be Jacob Masterson, Jason Shugart, John Shugart, Lane Cobbs, Fred Shugart, and Russell Cobbs. Honorary pallbearers will be Gene Robinette, Marty Robinette, Jay Mandola and Cody Cobbs.
Elsie was born August 26, 1919 in Box Church, Texas to Fred Dawley and Olga Blie Dawley.
Elsie, also known as Jack by her siblings, Jackie by her friends, and Nanny by her many grandchildren will be remembered as a loving caring mother who put her family first and as a devoted Baptist who loved her God above all else. She never met a stranger and enjoyed sharing jokes with friends, family and even those she just met. Elsie enjoyed cooking, sewing, crocheting, dominoes (particularly 42), gardening, traveling and playing slot machines.
Mrs. Shugart’s loving kindness and generous warm nature will be missed. Her legacy of holding family values dear will continue to influence generations to come as long as we remember to love each other and appreciate the life we have been given.
Her 80th birthday celebration was a testament to how well she was loved when so many friends and family came to her home. Exactly 20 years later many of those same friends and family came all the way to New Caney to help her celebrate her one hundredth birthday.
Elsie was preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Olga Dawley, her husband Leonard Shugart, her son Fred Shugart, and two grandsons David Cobbs and Jim Cobbs.
She is survived by her son Gary Shugart and wife Judy, daughter Linda Duke and husband Ellis Duke, son Carl Shugart and wife DeeAnn, six grandchildren, seventeen great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Mrs. Shugart’s name may be made to Bethel Baptist Church, 206 South Grayson, Groesbeck, Texas.
