David was born August 25, 1943 to Charlie Thomas Cobbs and Tommie Beatrice (Barge) Cobbs in Lavender. He attended school in Lorena and graduated from Lorena High School. Throughout his school years, he helped his father pen cows and work on the farm, and learned to work hard. David lived most of his adult life around Groesbeck. In his younger years, he loved to work rodeos. He loved horses and taught children how to ride horses. Family trips included going to Cheyenne Frontier Rodeo Days in Wyoming, the Calgary Stampede in Canada, and to the chuckwagon races in Arkansas.

In 1988 he worked with Leonard Shugart in construction. After that, he worked on a ranch in Thornton. He started his own construction business, and then worked for Limestone County Road and Bridge until retiring at 67 years old. After retiring, he continued to work with his tractor and backhoe for the public.

When he lost his son, David Lynn, in 1989, he started writing cowboy poetry and had a collection on many subjects he printed in a book.

David was united in marriage with Evelyn Juanice Meredith on June 25, 1989. His special hobbies were working in his barn and woodwork including making headboards, picture frames and tables.

David loved the Lord and his wife and family with all his heart. He was a loving man, which included all his friends, and he never met a stranger. He enjoyed the time he could sit and talk with friends for hours at the café. He will be missed by his wife and family and friends. He wanted his family to laugh and remember the happy and good times. Juanice has been his companion and caregiver through many years and to the very end.

David was preceded in death by his parents, Charlie and Tommie Cobbs; sons Jim Odell Cobbs and David Lynn Cobbs and Larry Pirtle; and two sisters, Louise Pierce and Mary Dee Williams.

David is survived by his wife, Juanice Cobbs of Groesbeck; son Russell Cobbs and wife Tina of Houston; daughters, Brandi Masterson of New Caney, and Shelley Alexander and husband Colby of Canton; grandchildren Kaitlyn and Kaleb Rosales, Jacob and Paige Masterson, Joey Masterson, Breanna Alexander, Dakota Alexander, Meagan Nevills, Cody and Taylor Cobbs, Lane Cobbs, Skyler Pirtle, Dillon Pirtle and Michelle Pirtle; greatgrandchildren, Kade Rosales, Brayden Pirtle, Finnlee Pirtle, Daniel Price and Carter Pirtle. He also has three sisters, Charlsie Dunlap, Sue Sims, and Tommie Faye Sims, as well as other extended family and friends.
