Dale Bankston
Dale Bankston of Bremond, Texas, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, August 24, 2024. He was the second son of Mitch and Elese Bankston, born on June 25, 1949, in Morton, Mississippi.
Dad always had a story to tell, usually a funny one. He loved talking to people and loved taking care of everyone, especially his family. He provided great meals for his family over the years through his love of hunting and fishing. He enjoyed barbecuing for his family and loved to share his barbeque talent at church gatherings.
He was always up working on something – he took pride in mowing his yard to keep their property at the top of the list for Yard of the Month, an honor which he bestowed upon himself.
Dale met and married the love of his life, Sandi – they were high school sweethearts. They spent the first part of their younger years in Dallas, Texas, while he worked as a barber in Mesquite.
They relocated to Trinidad, Texas, where he had a long career as an electrician for Big Brown in Fairfield, Texas.
The next adventure took them to Streetman as they built a home on Richland Chambers Reservoir in Azure Bay. He loved living on the lake. They spent a few years owning and operating the local Corner Store. He loved his Saturday night fish fries.
They returned for a few years once again to Trinidad where he worked for Trinidad ISD.
They made a final move to Bremond, where they shared a wonderful life of retirement, enjoying the peaceful sunsets and wonderful country life.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Mitch and Elese Bankston, and his grandson, Mason Floyd.
He is survived by his loving wife, Sandi, of 56 years, and their daughters, Elesha, Carrie, and Nikki. Their families include:
- Elesha and husband, Barry Whitsell, and their children; Allie and fiancé, Thomas Brown; Lane, and Max.
- Carrie and husband, Kyle Floyd, and their children; Brady and wife, Heidi Floyd, and their children, Mackenzie, Ciara, and Kaycee; Mitchell and wife, Kenadee Floyd; and Riley Floyd Nelson.
- Nikki and husband, Pat Settle, and their children; Bailey and husband, James David; Callee Marie; and AJ and fiancé, Katherine Echols.
He is also survived by brothers, Billy and wife, Barbara Bankston; David and wife, Brenda Bankston; and sister, Tammy and husband, Glenn Spencer; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Dad was able to come home in his final days and spend time with his dogs, Josie and Elli, see the deer at his feeder, and have his family by his side. He had so much love for everyone, and we know that everyone loved him.
In lieu of flowers, if you would like to make a donation to the Groesbeck Church of Christ at P.O. Box 512 in memory of our dad, they provide a wonderful pantry outreach to the local community and also support Missions abroad.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 29, at the Church of Christ, 201 S. Ellis St. Groesbeck, TX.
