Carl Jessie Jackson
Carl Jessie (Sonny) was born on August 1, 1944, to the late Willie Earl and Lee Edwin Jackson in Limestone County. As the story goes, when he was a toddler he crawled to his Aunt Mozelle’s house where he would spend his growing years.
Carl Jessie dedicated his life to God at an early age to the Church of God in Christ under the leadership of Elder R.D. White. He would later join Westside Church of Christ where he was a dedicated member and leader.
Carl Jessie Jackson passed away on July 9, 204. Services were held on Saturday, July 13 at Westside Church of Christ with Bro. Willis Ratcliff and Phil Gilmore officiating.
Carl Jessie attended Blackshear Washington and was good at football and an exceptional basketball player, his coach Mr. Hardin gave him the nickname “Papa”. While in high school, he met his future wife the late Mary Beth Jones. To this union three children were born: Lisa Machelle, Tonnette, and Carl Jessie Jr.
Carl Jessie began his career in carpentry for Mr. Goober Hewitt at twelve years old. According to his dad, Ben, Jessie was a natural at carpentry work. He not only learned carpentry from Mr. Goober, but he learned how to be a successful businessman. Jessie opened his first small business in the mid-70s with three dedicated carpenters Silvo Turrubiarte, Robert Gibson (Crook), and Milton Wiley. In 1982, Jessie would build his now-building Jackson’s Cabinets. With his dedicated employees, Jackson’s Cabinet would go on to build beautiful homes and hand-crafted cabinets and was employed by many individuals in the community.
Carl Jessie was an active member of the community. He was a member of the Jaycee’s Club whose members were pioneers in creating activities that the community enjoyed participating in. Carl Jessie received numerous awards for being active in the community and a long-time business owner in the community.
Carl Jessie was a hardworking man who never met a stranger. He was always willing to give and lend a helping hand. He will be greatly missed as a dad, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, friend, church member, and in the community.
Preceding him in death were his mother and father: Willie Earl and Lee Edwin Jackson; his aunt/mother Mozell and Walter Brewer; and his siblings: Bennie Mae, and Willie Earl (Bubbie). Beverly Ann, Barbara, and Edgar Lee. Also preceding him, son Carl Jessie Jr. and grandson Carl Jessie III (Ace).
Carl Jessie leaves to cherish his daughters Lisa Machelle Jackson, and Tonnette Smith, and daughter-in-law Cynthia Jackson. His grandchildren Jessica Beth Smith and Dr. Somer Smith-Nutall (Josh) and great-grandchild Kaylee. His adoptive sister Carolyn Brewer; niece Chasity Henderson, cousin Pat Bailey, special friend Esther Debalucos Stephens, and thank you to his niece Etta Jenkins. He also leaves a host of nieces and nephews.
