Georgetta (Martin) Downey
Georgetta (Martin) Downey, age 80, of Groesbeck, went to her eternal rest on Saturday, June 24, 2023.
Funeral services will begin in the pavilion at 10:00 a.m. at the Faulkenberry Cemetery on Wednesday, June 28, 2023, with Pastor Jon Honea officiating.
Georgetta was born November 14, 1942, to Daniel F. Martin and Jean (Smith) Martin in Elizabethtown, Illinois. Georgetta moved to Texas from Mississippi with her four children in 1978 and lived in the Dallas area until she moved to Arlington. She left Arlington and moved with George Downey to Groesbeck, his hometown, where they were united in marriage. Three of her children eventually moved to Groesbeck as well.
Georgetta had a natural gift for interior design and that was reflected in her home. She had artistic talent, sketching in her younger years and then taking up oil painting later in life. She leaves behind her paintings to be treasured by her family for years to come.
Georgetta enjoyed cooking for her family and was the “best” in their opinion. She loved her cats and dogs and working in her garden with her plants and flowers. Georgetta was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Mexia. Georgetta enjoyed singing, whether singing hymns at church (“In the Garden” was her favorite) or singing along with all kinds of music at home and while traveling.
Georgetta was preceded in death by her parents, Daniel F. Martin of Mesa, Arizona and Jean Orr of Eldorado, Illinois; her husband, George Downey of Groesbeck in 1998; and her brothers, Doyle Martin of Arizona and Charles Martin of Groesbeck.
She is survived by her children, Georgia “Neesie” Booth and husband Roger of Groesbeck, Linda Dostine and husband Tony of Groesbeck; Daniel Boone and partner Terry Wilkerson of Groesbeck, and Keith Boone of Panama City, Florida. She was blessed with 8 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren as well as nieces and nephews.
She is also survived by her sisters, Tommie Sadler and husband Steven of Fort Worth and Gayla McKinney and husband Greg of Eldorado, Illinois, and brother, Loy Owen and wife Hope of Eldorado, and nieces and nephews.
Georgetta has gone now to sing with the angels and will be dearly missed by her family.
