Election Results
The majority of voters seem to be happy with their representation on city council and the school board, as the incumbents won their elections Saturday, May 6. A total of 1,162 ballots were cast in the county according to the Limestone County Elections Administration.
Groesbeck ISD will have two new faces on its board after the election as Longbotham and Bradley took the win on election day.
Jim Longbotham secured 575 votes for 40.69% of the votes and Stephen Bradley secured 552 votes for 39.07% of the votes while Ronnie Ferguson took 286 votes for 20.24% in the Trustee At-large position for the Groesbeck ISD election.
The residents of Emergency Services District #1 overwhelmingly approved a 2% sales and use tax, with 53 votes (79.1%). Fourteen voters (20.9%) were against the tax.
In the Kosse special election, at total of 38 voted for and one against Proposition A “The reauthorization of the local sales and use tax in the City of Kosse, Texas at the rate of three-eights of one percent to continue providing revenue for maintenance and repair of municipal streets. The tax expires on the fourth anniversary of the date of the election unless the imposition of the tax is reauthorized.”
In the Mexia City Council election, Joyce Forge-Johnson garnered 63.64% of the votes (14) to Yolanda “Blossom” Dancer’s 36.36% (8).
Marty Cargile secured 197 votes for 67.47% of the votes, while Keith Smith took 95 for 32.53% in the Trustee of Place 4 for Mexia ISD election.
There will be a runoff election for the third city council seat in Coolidge.
Incumbent Ronda Ivy led all votegetters in the race for Coolidge City Council with 48 votes (29.45%); Katherine Hayes garnered 37 votes (22.7%).
There is a third-place tie between Eddie Quinton and incumbent William Torp. They both took 29 votes (17.79%). A decision on runoff election dates and times will be decided during a City Council meeting Wednesday, May 10.
