Gwen was born March 9, 1937, to Bill Lloyd and Johnnie (McClendon) Lloyd in the Beulah community near Groesbeck. She graduated from Groesbeck High School in the Class of 1955.
Gwen was united in marriage with Bobby Joe Lammons on December 16, 1955, in Groesbeck. They lived in Dallas in the Pleasant Grove area, where they raised their family. She was a very involved mom with her children’s activities and PTA. When her kids were older, she went to work as head cashier at Minyard Food Store in Dallas and worked for thirteen years. Gwen participated in “TOPS” where she not only strived for weight loss but made good friends and enjoyed social gatherings with them. She was always highly admired for her cooking, and she was the life of the party. She enjoyed life and made the people she shared it with laugh.
Gwen and Bobby moved to Groesbeck after he retired. She was a member of the Church of Christ of Groesbeck and served in the kitchen, preparing food and being of service to families at meals for funerals or fellowship. She was a wonderful grandmother to 10 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren, and they were “all perfect” in her eyes.
Gwen moved to Kaufman with her daughter after she had surgery in 2013, and then she moved into a permanent residence in Terrell nine years ago. She enjoyed a full social schedule at her facility, with worship services, bingo, cornhole baseball (where she was on the blue team), dominoes, working puzzles, and talking to her family and friends. She also frequently wrote the church at Groesbeck to say hello to everyone.
Gwen was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Bobby in 2004; her sister and brother-in-law, Jo and Garvin Allen; sister and brother-in-law, Marlene and Fred Robinson; brother-in-law, Charles Harris; and uncle, Buck McClendon.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Mel and Carol Ann Mays of Kaufman; son and daughter-in-law, Joe and Rhonda Lammons of Eustace; son, William Thomas Lammons of Groesbeck; and son, Charles Daniel Lammons of Garland. Her 10 grandchildren are Chris Mays, Misti Gent, Bo Lammons, Saebra Ramirez; Thomas Lammons, Spencer Lammons, Haley Lammons; Randy Lammons, JD Lammons, and Cari Lammons; and there are 17 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by a sister, Marie Harris, and nieces, and nephews.
