Oscar “Royce” Rhodes
Oscar “Royce” Rhodes, 85, left this world on February 23, 2021. He was born October 21, 1935 in Thornton, Texas to Oscar Ralph Rhodes and Georgia Illene Gillihan Rhodes. He graduated from Harlandale High School in San Antonio in 1954. In 1955 Royce joined the Air Force and spent 2 years in Japan working as crew chief repairing jet fighter planes. He was proud of his time in the military. He worked as a civil service computer technician at Fort Hood and retired to Lake Limestone in 2011. Royce was a member of the Methodist Church.
He leaves behind to cherish his memory his son, Roy Alan Rhodes (Pat) of Lake Brownwood; daughter, Georgia Vernette Whatley (Ray) of Decatur; grandchildren, Raychel and Raymond Whatley; stepgrandchildren, Ryan Schab and Sarah Armstrong; sisters, Ruth Jones (Ken) of Houston and Wanda Barnes of Brownwood; two great-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren; three nieces; three nephews; and special friends, Randy May, Lisa Gaskamp, and Amanda May.
Royce was preceded in death by his companion, Tommie Jo May of Waco; his parents, Ralph and Georgia Rhodes of Brownwood; daughter, Debbie Jo Rhodes; mother of his children, Jo Stovall Rhodes of Brownwood; wife, Ruby Rhodes of Lampasas; and brother-in-law, Dick Barnes of San Angelo.
Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. on Saturday, March 27 at Waco Memorial Park.
