Olga Jeannette Cox

Olga Jeannette Cox, 91, received her new heavenly body Wednesday, Nov. 4, 2020. A funeral took place at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 8 at Groesbeck Funeral Home with Pastor Randy Ayres delivering the message. Interment will follow at Old Union Cemetery. Pallbearers were Doug Yarbrough, Kevin Reeves, Travis Armstrong, Robert Howard, Trevor Dorman, and Blakely Young. Jeannette was born March 24, 1929, in Groesbeck to parents Finis and Madelyn Reeves. She married Gilbert Eugene Cox, the love of her life, on Jan. 17, 1947. Jeannette loved her family and was the rock on which that family was built. She worked 30- years for the Mexia State School but found solace in Old Union where she and Gene created life and love to which there will be no rival. The two celebrated 60-years together before his passing in 2007. She was tireless in everything she did whether it was cooking for a horde of people every Friday night for music and dominoes in the shop or crocheting blankets or making quilts for everyone in the country. No-one could keep up with her pace and everyone tried. Family gatherings were chaotic, loud, and filled with fun, love, music, and a lot of laughter. There wasn’t a moment, stepping into that home, you wouldn’t smell something wonderful cooking on the stove or in the oven. She enjoyed time with children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, even great-great-grandchildren most of all. There was nothing she couldn’t do and she did it with love and caring, as well as a little tough love when the occasion warranted. When something needed to be built, Gene would think about it for a little while, but it would always end up perfect, for them. From kitchen sets for the great-granddaughters to cedar reindeer 20-feet in the air, she and Gene made every occasion wonderfully memorable. These are just a sampling of what we, the family, will remember about her. There are so many beautiful memories, we could sit for hours and not even come close to them all. She was a major factor in molding all of us into who we are and how we handle life. Every time we come to a life-changing decision, most of us will think back and ask ourselves, “How would she handle this?” We have gone through our lives and at times disappointed, frustrated or baffled her but there was never a moment that went by we didn’t know she loved us with everything she was. Jeanette was a force to be reckoned with and God help anyone who hurt hers. She has now gone on to be with Jesus, Gene, Mama Dell, Daddad, her sister Martha, brother Finis (Snowball), and her baby, Keith just to name a few. We can only imagine the glory and peace she is experiencing now. As a Christian, she is whole, she is new, she is in the presence of God and wrapped in His warmth and protection for eternity.

We, left behind, miss her deeply. Miss her smile, her love, her devotion to family, her unfailing love of life. She and Gene were, are, the backbone of the family, and we will continue to honor her, their legacy until we can join them. Jeanette is preceded in death by parents Finis and Madelyn Reeves, husband Gilbert Eugene Cox, son Keith Cox, son-in-law Henry Howard, grandbabies Quinten Cade Grimes, Colin Gene Grimes, Tessa Nyree Grimes, sister Martha Van Dyke, and brother Finis (Snowball) Reeves. She is survived by her sister Jane Yarbrough of Thornton, brother Chester Reeves and wife Betty of Old Union; daughters Regenia Cox of Old Union, Kassey Howard of Carthage, Kathy Armstrong and husband Eddie of Old Union; grandchildren Shelly Pope of Old Union, Paula Barton and husband Michael of Groesbeck, Travis Armstrong and wife Stephanie of Houston, Robert Howard and wife Stephanie of Carthage; great-grandchildren Kara Race and husband Cameron of Arlington, Kelli Pope of Portland, OR, Kyler Osborne and husband Aaron of Camas WA, Trevor Dorman of College Station, Austin Barton of Groesbeck, Castle Armstrong, Leta Armstrong, Justiss Howard, and Blakely Young; great-great-grandchildren Kaia Osborne and Montana Race and a host of well-loved nieces and nephews.
