Marcella K. Bates

Marcella K. Bates, (known to her Nursing Home friends as Marcy) passed away peacefully at Windsor Healthcare Residence, while her favorite Elvis gospel songs were playing, on Wednesday, October 28, 2020, at age 87.

Graveside services were held on Saturday, October 31, 2020 at Kosse City Cemetery, with Pastor Jon Honea officiating.

Marcella was born in Kosse on August 5, 1933, the only child of Jasper Bates and Edna Hunt Bates. She grew up and attended school in Kosse, where she graduated from High School.

Marcella was a member of the Church of Christ in Kosse. Although she suffered from Cerebral Palsy all her life, her faith remained strong. She continued to live on her own in Kosse as long as she could.

Marcy was one of the initial residents to move into Windsor when it was built, and thus was considered a Windsor Alumni. She participated in all the social activities at Windsor and was a “crackerjack” speller for the spelling contests. She enjoyed all who visited with her, and enjoyed talking, telling stories, and joking around.

Marcella was a happy person, and after outliving all her immediate family, she made a good life during her residence at Windsor, with the patients and staff there being her new family. She loved her yearly Birthday parties, held by her cousin Betty Lou Hunter while she was alive, and then by Betty Lou’s daughter, Sheri Liscano, and her family. Marcy wanted everyone at the home to come to her party and wanted everyone to have some cake. Marcy was most happy with a Sonic burger and a large Dr. Pepper – “The Best in the West” she said. Even to the end, she enjoyed her Dr. Pepper.

She also loved music and knew the words to the songs she liked most, singing along with a beautiful voice. As she became more confined from the social activities, she was happy with the music on the CD player in her room.

Marcy was preceded in death by her parents and cousins, Joe E. and Betty Lou Hunter.

She is survived by cousins, Sheri and John Liscano of Groesbeck and their sons, Tak Sellers and Nick Liscano, and Ray Edward Hunter and wife Bobbie and their daughter, Presley of Longview, and all her “Nursing Home Family.”

Marcella loved “her Stanley;” special thanks are given to Stanley Gibson for his loving care for her over the years, even on his day off. Also, thanks are given for the Reliant at Home Hospice nurses, Ashley, Kristi and Judy, for taking such good care of her.
