Charlotte Maxine “Donnie” Wilson Radford

Charlotte Maxine “Donnie” Wilson Radford passed away peacefully May 4, 2020 in Georgetown, Texas, with her son, Bobby, by her side.

She was born on August 28, 1926, in Groesbeck, Texas, to Annie Lurline (nee Snow) and Clyde C. Wilson.

She loved dancing and music and grew up playing in the dirt with her big sister, picking cotton, and swimming in Fort Parker Lake. She was a majorette during her time at Groesbeck High School, where she formed many lifelong friends. She graduated in 1943 and was a student at Westminster College in Tehuacana. She was an avid Groesbeck homecoming attendant, and had fond, full stories of her youth.

She met her husband, Bob, in Waco, where they were married on September 20, 1949. They were married for 47 years until his death in 1996. The couple raised their two sons, Bill and Bobby, in Waco, Hearne, and Lake Jackson before finally retiring and settling in Georgetown.

An independent woman who worked outside the home most of her life, she concluded her working career with the Georgetown Public Library. She was a great seamstress, a prolific storyteller, and expert fisher woman. Her sayings like “I’m a cute little girl, with a cute little figure” were always tip of tongue. She was an avid reader, loved the movie Picnic, and was a romantic at heart.

Our “Grammy” always had Hershey Kisses at hand to share. She was renowned for her legendary fudge, divinity, and Texas chocolate sheet cake. A passionate cook, she made homemade mac and cheese, chicken spaghetti, and Grammy green beans that were talked about at every family gathering. She could filet a fish in no time flat, and loved the coast and summer visits to Port Aransas. Grammy loved playing all kinds of games, from Skip-Bo and Chinese Checkers to Duck Hunt, and always won. She was active in her family’s lives, attending countless swim meets, band concerts, t-ball games, and birthday parties. She treasured spending time at the ranch and was a consummate hostess at all Luling Watermelon Thumps. She enjoyed watching sports, especially football, and was a lifelong Texas Aggie fan.

Grammy loved her family deeply and was a devoted daughter, aunt, wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was funny, spoke her mind, and always stood up for herself and her family.

She was preceded in death by her husband Robert Knox “PaPaw” Radford; her sister Mary Alice “Tinky” Jackson; and her parents. She is survived by her sons, Bill (Debbie) and Bobby (Peggy); nieces, Barbara (Paul Wayne), Lorraine and Carolyn Thomas; and nephews, David (Carol Ann) Jackson and Randy (Jan) Jackson; grandchildren: Glenna (Bech) Bruun, Kyle (Kayla) Radford, Melanie (Wesley) Edwards, Kevin (Erin) Radford; great-grandchildren, Cilla Kay, Radford, and Anne Charlotte Bruun, Ella and Emerson Radford, Arthur and Genevieve Edwards, Adalann and Rowan Radford.

Her beloved family will celebrate her life with a private graveside service at Faulkenberry Cemetery in Groesbeck, with a memorial service to be planned at a later date.
