Shirley Darlene Popejoy
Shirley Darlene Popejoy, our beloved Mother, was called to her eternal resting place on Monday, April 20, 2020. She entered this world on June 19, 1936 in Old Union, Tx born to Jessie Calvin White and Bertie (Roberts) White.
Graveside services were held on Tuesday, April 21, in Cox Cemetery Pavilion at Old Union, with Brother Richard Williams of the Groesbeck Church of Christ officiating.
Shirley grew up in Old Union in a home filled with generations of family. She loved Jesus her entire life and was a strong woman of faith. She was a hard worker who never let up. As a girl, she would pick cotton with her Momma, she remembered getting electricity, and learned to be an excellent seamstress.
She had a great love for our country and our American flag. Upon graduation from Groesbeck High School, Shirley moved to Dallas with her girl-friends and started her career.
Later she attended North Texas before marriage. She was a career woman who raised her children in Tarrant County. Shirley remained close to her roots throughout her life and later returned to Limestone County.
Shirley’s grandchildren lovingly called her Mimi. They loved when Mimi would come spend the night because they would talk all night and have foot rubs. She was generous with her time, was always glad to see her family, and stubbornly insisted on being the caregiver. She persistently invested her time in preserving our country for her children and grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Jess and Bertie White and her brother, Glenn Donald White.
She is survived by her children, Donald Max Popejoy, Michael Lynn Popejoy and wife Carla, Gayla Anne (Popejoy) Wynn and husband Burton and six grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
