Heritage Festival coming up but Did You Know?
Just a brief reminder that the first annual Groesbeck Heritage Festival will be coming up on May 29, 30, 31!
The Heritage Festival is being sponsored by the Groesbeck Chamber of Commerce with other organizations and also local businesses pitching in to help sponsor this event.
As stated previously a parade, a carnival, vendors located downtown, the annual Groesbeck Lions Club Car Show at the City Park, several area bands will provide music at the Courthouse, and some special activities at the Limestone County Show Barn and other activities will be included in the Heritage Festival festivities. Watch for more details on the various events in the coming weeks.
Both the Limestone County Historical Museum and the American Legion Hall will be open to the public during the Heritage Festival weekend for the public to see their exhibits.
The Groesbeck Journal will have an open house on Friday afternoon, May 29. The old printing equipment will be on display, and, perhaps, some of the older Journals.
By the way, the Groesbeck Lions Club is sponsoring a clean-up day on Saturday, May 16, to help make the town attractive for the Heritage Festival. See related article in this week’s Journal.
And, remember, Heritage Festival 2021 will celebrate the 150th anniversary of the founding of Groesbeck.
Did you know the following facts about Groesbeck and Limestone County?
The swimming pool at the Groesbeck City Park is one of the oldest, if not the oldest, municipal swimming pools in the state of Texas. The local swimming pool was built in 1924. The City of Groesbeck has kept the swimming pool in good condition for these many years.
Speaking of the Groesbeck City Park, the Groesbeck High School football field was located in the park for a portion of the 1930s. That football field in City Park is believed to be one of the first lighted football fields in Central Texas.
The Groesbeck School District was officially founded in 1890, and the first graduating class of Groesbeck High School was in 1896.
Groesbeck High School fielded its first football team in 1901.
