Goats crown one champion at Gatesville powerlifting meet
The Groesbeck powerlifting team had one champion at the Hornet Invitational at Gatesville on Saturday.
Weslee Duke won the 114-pound weight class by lifting a total of 690 pounds. He opened with a 240-pound squat and followed that up with a bench press of 150 pounds and a 300-pound dead lift.
Coker Holloway was fifth in the 148-pound weight class with a total of 920 pounds. That included a 355-pound squat, a bench press of 205 pounds and a 360-pound dead lift.
Kelly Rainer was sixth in the 181-pound weight class with a total of 1,040 pounds. That included a 390-pound squat, a bench press of 225 pounds and a 425-pound dead lift.
Terrell Conn finished seventh in the 198-pound weight class. His total of 1,140 pounds was the most by a Groesbeck lifter in the meet and was 65 pounds more than the previous week.
Conn began with a 430-pound squat. He had a bench press of 300 pounds and finished with a 410-pound dead lift.
Josh Lockhart finished eighth in the 242-pound weight class with a total of 860 pounds. He had a 330-pound squat, a bench press of 245 pounds and a 285-pound dead lift.
Also for the Goats, Preston Shields finished 11th in the 165-pound weight class.
On the girls side, Yasmine Venegas finished fifth in the 114-pound weight class with a total of 465 pounds. That included a 180-pound squat, a bench press of 85 pounds and a 200-pound dead lift.
Aly Loftice was seventh in the 105-pound weight class with a total of 405 pounds. That included a 150-pound squat, a bench press of 80 pounds and a 175-pound dead lift.
Alycia Chappel finished seventh in the 198-pound weight class with a total of 510 pounds. That included a 210-pound squat, a bench press of 100 pounds and a 200-pound dead lift.
Also for the girls, Sedaija Mack finished 11th and Miah Alvarado finished 15th in the 123-pound weight class.
The next meet will be Feb 22 at West. It will be the last regional qualifier.
