Crimestoppers dinner a way to fight crime
Limestone County residents will be able not only to “take a bite out of crime” but also get a bite of good food Saturday, Sept. 8, at the annual dinner and auction benefitting Limestone County Crimestoppers.
This year the event will take place in Mexia at First Baptist Church, 500 E. Carthage, in the Christian Life Center.
Joe Friday’s Diner will cater the meal, which will feature chicken-fried chicken.
“Besides the chicken-fried chicken, there will be green beans, potatoes and gravy, rolls, cookies for dessert and iced tea,” said Crimestoppers Chair Linda Jordan.
The dinner will be served 6-7 p.m. with the meal available on site or to go.
A silent auction will take place during the dinner hour, with a live auction following, starting at 7 p.m. Donations to Crimestoppers will be accepted.
Plates are $15 each, with proceeds going to the Crimestoppers Tip Fund.
Crimestoppers board member and treasurer Carl Haddick said Crimestoppers has very little overhead, so virtually all the proceeds go to fighting crime in Limestone County.
Haddick is encouraging anyone interested in solving crimes in Limestone County to attend the fundraiser dinner.
“Crimestoppers provides law enforcement with a powerful tool to get information that leads to a safer community,” Haddick said. “Please join Crimestoppers in our annual fundraiser and help us stop crime. The money you donate goes directly to making this a safer community.”
Crimestoppers pays tips for information leading to the arrest or conviction of people who have committed crimes locally. Those who provide crime tips may even remain anonymous through the Crimestoppers phone system. Those who have information on local crimes may call Crimestoppers at 254-729-8477.
Jordan noted that Crimestoppers has only one fundraiser each year. She reminded those considering going that the silent auction will provide many opportunities to win attractive prizes.
“We all enjoy spending our money and getting a bargain in doing it,” she said. “During the live auction we have several excellent donated gifts including a bearskin rug, some handmade furniture, some outdoor directors chairs, and for the first time we have this: The Groesbeck Volunteer Fire Department
