The Homecoming game will be held at Goat Stadium, with kickoff set for 7:30 p.m. The Groesbeck Goats will face the Centerville Bulldogs. Pregame ceremonies begin at 5:30 p.m. Highlights include the presentation of several pre-game awards, including the Class of 1974 Graduates, Mr. and Mrs. Homecoming, Ex-Students Queen, and Parade Marshal. The Homecoming Queen will be crowned during halftime.

Saturday, Sept. 14
The Homecoming Parade, themed "Let’s Go to the Movies," will showcase the creativity of each GHS class. From classic films like "The Wizard of Oz" to unique themes like "Drive-In Movies," “Twisters,” and "Intermission," the parade promises to be a vibrant display of school spirit. Graduating classes will decorate floats and march in the parade, demonstrating their class pride.
Following the parade, the Ex-Students Association will host a luncheon at the Convention Center, 106 E. Navasota. Enjoy Tamale Inn’s famous beef and/or chicken enchiladas with Mexican rice, refried beans, and a "chocolate delight" dessert for $15 per plate. Tickets are available from ex-students or at the Journal office.
Educators, both past and present, are invited to ride on the Honor Float for HoCo 2024. Interested educators should contact GISD School Board Vice President and Class of 1967 alum Jim Longbotham at 254-747-1627. Lisa Stewart is managing the parade lineup; contact her at 254-292-3155 to participate.
After the luncheon, the GHS Class of 1974 will be honored with 50-year diplomas in a special ceremony. Attendees are then invited to gather at the Blackshear Washington Historical Marker Site for a nostalgic tour. The journey includes a walk through the old Washington cafeteria, now known as the ‘Old Goat Cafe,’ and a reunion in the Old Washington Gym at 3 p.m.
Captain Joe Christopher Phillips, son of Mr. Joe and Gloredia Phillips, will offer remarks at the reunion, adding significance to the event. Additionally, alumni shirts are available for purchase via social media from Diamonds and Dust.
Groesbeck ISD’s Homecoming weekend promises a vibrant mix of camaraderie, nostalgia, and celebration, uniting the past, present, and future of the Groesbeck ISD community.
