High-speed chase through Groesbeck results in arrest
One man was arrested after a high-speed chase through Groesbeck and into the Mexia area on Tuesday morning.
Groesbeck Police Chief Chris Henson received information from the United States Marshal’s Service of a person wanted on a Federal revocation warrant traveling south on State Highway 14 into Groesbeck on Tuesday morning.
After observing the reported vehicle, a 2002 BMW, Henson initiated a traffic stop in the 1000 block of McClintic Drive in Groesbeck at 10:50 a.m.
Upon exiting his patrol car, the suspect’s vehicle sped away, which initiated a pursuit through Groesbeck and into the unincorporated areas of the county with speeds in excess of 118 mph.
After a lengthy pursuit and running out of gas the suspect attempted to stash his car which was observed by witnesses who also called 911.
Ultimately the suspect, Jeffrey Ray Padgett, surrendered peacefully in the roadway and was taken into custody on LCR 200, just off of FM 2838. He was charged with evading arrest or detention with a vehicle.
The incident concluded with no injuries to officers, civilians, or suspect and would not have been possible without the coordinated efforts of the Groesbeck Police Department, United States Marshal’s Service, Mexia Police Department, Limestone County Sheriff’s Office, Texas Department of Public Safety-Highway Patrol, Texas Parks and Wildlife-Game Warden, and Precinct One Constable Scott Smith.
Henson especially wanted to thank the Limestone County Communications Center staff for helping maintain a sense of order throughout the incident and ensuring the timely relay of information between departments.
