Groesbeck Council Bids Seelinger Farewell; Welcomes New Member, Sonia Selvera

The Groesbeck City Council said goodbye to member Jenny Seelinger after she resigned at the regular meeting on Tuesday, Dec. 21. She explained that she and her family have moved to Forney, following her husband Chet Seelinger's recent promotion to Sergeant with Texas DPS.

"It has been a pleasure to serve with each of you and this was a great learning opportunity for me," Seelinger said of her year spent on the council.

Mayor Ray O'Docharty and others in attendance stated they were grateful for her contributions and sad to see her go, but wished her the best of luck with this new chapter of life. A brief executive session followed so the council could deliberate on who to appoint to the now vacant seat for the remainder of the term.

Upon reconvening, the council appointed and approved Sonia Selvera to complete the term Seelinger left behind. Keep an eye on future editions of the Journal for a feature on Selvera as the newest member of Groesbeck Council.

In other business, the council approved the consent agenda, the investment policy, and the tax abatement for Kymera that had been agreed upon previously.

“In May of 2020, Council approved a letter of commitment to Kymera Body Boards for their tax abatement, and this resolution is required to fulfill that commitment,” said EDC Director TK Presley, who played an integral role in bringing the company to Groesbeck. Council approved the resolution and Kymera plans to open its doors early spring of next year.

The successful Holiday Activities and Parade held on Dec. 4 were also discussed. City Administrator Chris Henson stated they had received a lot of positive feedback from the community and they plan to improve and expand celebrations next year.

The next Groesbeck Council Meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, Jan. 18 at 6 p.m. in the City Commons.
