Homeowner Applications Available for “Blessings in October”
“Blessings in October” has scheduled its thirteenth annual Adopt Some Houses workday for Saturday, October 21.
“Blessings in October” was been established with a mission of “Winterizing, enhancing safety and face-lifting homes of lowincome, elderly and persons with disabilities during one Saturday in October. “Families with individuals deployed on military assignments are also served..” This non-profit organization replicates programs in other cities that have impacted families, neighborhoods and entire cities for 25 years according to Charlie Eastburn, founder of “Blessings in October”. Mr. Eastburn served in leadership roles in Kansas City’s “Christmas in October” for 20 years. Six hundred homes were adopted for improvements during one Saturday in 2009. This program grew from the vision of two Kansas City businessmen adopting one house 25 years earlier. Although various local organizations have made significant contributions in Groesbeck over many years, Eastburn believes even more can be accomplished by unifying the efforts of business owners and volunteer workers. “Difference Makers” is the term Eastburn chooses to describe those individuals willing to invest one Saturday in the lives of others who are unable to repair their homes to a safe condition. In this thirteenth year, “Blessings in October” is identifying individuals that will serve as House Captains to organize crews for each adopted home. Anyone interested in more information or serving as a House Captain may call 254.729.2635 or sending an e-mail to: eastburn@ saturdaysolutions.com.
Homeowners may apply to have repairs made by a “Blessings in October” team by completing an application and submitting it no later than September 14. Applications are available at the Groesbeck Journal office, Citizens National Bank and Farmers State Bank. Donations of materials needed for repairs are also essential to the organization’s ability to repair more homes. This continues to be a great project for our community that can truly make a difference.
