Get some Holiday Cheer Here

With the holidays sneaking up on us like the Grinch on a Christmas tree, there will be tons of holiday-themed events you and your family can attend locally.

Wednesday, Nov. 29

The Mexia Christmas tree lighting ceremony will take place at the corner of Main Street and Sherman at 6 p.m.

Thursday, Nov. 30

The Mexia Christmas parade will begin at 6 p.m. Line-up is at 5 p.m. at the First Methodist Church on Canton Street.

Friday, Dec. 1

First Methodist Church in Groesbeck will kick off its Winter Fest with a Christmas market and bake sale at the Methodist Activity Center (MAC Building) at 212 W Navasota. It will open at 10 a.m.

Saturday, Dec. 2

The Chamber is hosting “Dashing through Groesbeck” on Dec. 2, a shop local event that encourages locals to visit participating businesses in the area. To participate in the event, all you have to do is visit any of the participating businesses to receive a punch on your punch card. These punch cards will be located at participating businesses notated by a star in the window.

You can pick up a card at the first business you visit. After collecting 10 punches from different businesses, turn in your card to the Chamber Booth during the City Holiday Celebration in downtown Groesbeck for a chance to win a grand prize of $500. There will also be a second and third prizes donated by the participating businesses. The drawing will be held at 7 p.m. at the Chamber Booth during the City Holiday Celebration. Remember, cards must be turned in by 6 p.m.

This event is a great opportunity for locals to find unique holiday gifts, support their community, and have fun. Not only does it provide a chance to win big, but it also encourages people to shop local and support small businesses in the area.

First Methodist Church in Groesbeck will conclude Winter Fest with the continuation of the Christmas market and bake sale and Christmas Homes Tour & Lunch. The market and bake sale will open at 10 a.m. Tickets for the tour are $20 and include lunch in the Methodist Activity Center that starts at 11 a.m. Three homes and the church sanctuary will be decorated for Christmas. Tickets can be purchased from the church office, 254-729-5137, until 3 p.m. on Thursday, or from any church member. Tickets need to be purchased in advance as no tickets will be available at the homes. The event will also include a silent auction for a handmade boot quilt sewn by the Sew Thankful ministry. All proceeds from this fun event will go to support the community’s youth

West Lake Limestone Volunteer Fire Department is hosting its annual Lunch with Santa. All you need to bring a donation for the fire department, a nonperishable food donation, or a pet food donation, and lunch is on them! Lunch will be hosted between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. and will include a hot dog or hamburger, chips, a drink, and free pictures with Santa for the kids. The event will also include a raffle, The raffle prizes are a patriotic quilt, a guided fishing trip, and a $100 gift card. You can buy tickets for prior to the event from members of the WLLVFD.

The City of Groesbeck is hosting The Parade of Lights and Holiday Celebration at City Hall Square. The vendor market opens at 4 p.m. The parade and festivities will begin at 6. Festivities will include a performance by Studio Move dancers, local food trucks, games, pictures with Santa, inflatable slides and an obstacle course, music, hot chocolate, and S’mores.

Tuesday, Dec. 5

Senior Celebration at Mexia Senior Center from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Join the holiday fun with games, prizes, goodies, and more. The center is located at 109 N. Sherman St.

The Annual LMC Christmas Lighting Ceremony is from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. There will be refreshments, hot cocoa, performances by the StudioMove! Dance Company and Twirlers, Christmas craft tables, and opportunities for pictures with Santa or to write a letter to Santa

Thursday-Sunday Dec. 7-10

The Annual Christmas at the Fort at Old Fort Parker Historic Site will take place over the long weekend. Enjoy a trip back in time at the (mostly) historically accurate event. School Field Trip days will be Thursday and Friday. The competitions will take place on Saturday including black powder riflery, primitive archery, primitive fire starting, and tomahawk and knife throwing. The competitions will be held separately for men, women, and youths aged 14 and under. Restrooms and showers are available. For more information Contact Booshway Chris Coffee at 817-807-0829. Thursday, Dec.7

A Holiday Farmer’s Market, located at the parkette, if weather permits, or an indoor location if it does not. This month’s farmer’s market will be holiday-themed and host significantly more vendors than usual. It will also have extended hours due to the increased number of vendors, lasting from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.

The GHS Student Council is hosting the 2nd annual Toys 4 Tots Movie Night at the Groesbeck High School Auditorium. Admission is $5 or 1 unopened toy. They will be showing The Polar Express and serving milk and cookies. Children are welcome to wear their pajamas. Santa, Mrs. Claus, elves, and the Wise Men will be making an appearance. This will take place from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m
